Anaheim Pediatric Dental Exams & Teeth Cleanings
On a Mission to Give Children Optimal Dental Health
Starship M Children’s Dentistry and Orthodontics, our Anaheim team is committed to helping children maintain oral health,
prevent tooth decay, and treat oral health problems early. We recommend
exams and cleanings in Anaheim for our patients at least every six months.
When Should I Take My Child to the Dentist?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children have
their first dental visit by age one. Our pediatric dentist will examine
your child for any signs of early problems and provide information about
child’s oral health and what to expect and prepare as he/she grows.
Visit us Twice a Year
Receiving a dental cleaning and exam is recommended every six months to
achieve optimal dental health for your child. If your child has an increased
risk for tooth decay or has an unusual growth pattern, we may recommend
more frequent visits.
Early and regular
dental visits are essential for establishing good habits and building healthy
teeth and gums for life. We provide regular exams and cleanings in Anaheim
to help prevent tooth decay,
cavities, and other problems that can lead to pain, tooth loss, and other lasting
consequences. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends starting dental
visits when a child is one or the first tooth appears.
Regular dental exams and cleanings help to:
- Establish good oral health practices
- Teach kids the importance of oral health
- Learn proper brushing and flossing techniques
- Detect dental problems early
Tooth decay is a serious problem among American children. According to
the CDC, more than 40% of children in the United States have some form
of tooth decay by the time they reach kindergarten. Good oral hygiene
and dental visits every six months can help prevent this and enables us
to treat decay at the earliest stages to prevent further damage.
During this visit, your child’s mouth will be examined by our pediatric
dentist for any signs of cavities, infections, sores, or bleeding gums.
Then, all surfaces of teeth will be cleaned and polished.
Comprehensive Exams for Kids
The goal of regular dental exams and cleanings in Anaheim is to detect
problems early. Identifying tooth decay and other oral health problems
early enables us to provide treatment before the problem becomes bigger
and more complicated to solve. During each visit, we carefully examine
your child’s teeth and gums to assess overall dental health and
look for potential trouble spots.
We understand that some children can become anxious of dental exams. Whether
your child has generalized fear caused by past dental treatments, we can
help. We have created a fun and welcoming environment for our young patients,
from the “Control Bridge” (waiting room) to “Engineering”
(our X-ray room). We focus on making your child comfortable and dental
visits as enjoyable as possible.
Thorough Pediatric Dental Cleanings in Anaheim
Even the most conscientious children and attentive parents miss spots when
brushing and flossing. For this reason, regular professional cleanings
are important. We have the tools needed to remove plaque and tartar buildup
on the teeth and gums to help protect your child’s teeth from damage
and decay. Professional cleanings are recommended at least twice a year.
Your child’s visit may also include:
- Fluoride treatments
- Other diagnostic procedures, when needed
In addition to cleaning your child’s teeth, we focus on providing
education to our young patients and their parents about maintaining good
oral health. We can discuss foods and beverages that should be limited
to prevent tooth decay, oral habit correction, and proper brushing and
flossing techniques to help your child get started on a road to a lifetime
of healthy teeth and gums.
X-rays During Dental Visit
During your child’s dental visit, the doctor may recommend to take
x-rays. Dental X-rays are valuable part of our comprehensive exam because
they can show images of your child oral health that are not visible to the eye.
Dental X-rays require very low levels of radiation exposure, and is considered
safe for children and adults. Your child will be wearing heavy lead apron,
which will also protect them from radiation. Also, M Dental Group uses
advanced digital X-rays instead of film developed X-rays, which also lowers
the radiation exposure.
If your child has taken X-rays recently within 6 months at another dental
office, please inform us prior to your visit.
