or a damaged tooth. At

crowns in Anaheim. Our office is equipped with up-to-date technology to
provide the highest quality care for patients of all ages.
Reasons for Crowns
A dental crown is a covering that is cemented to the natural tooth. The
procedure is meant to restore the function and natural shape of the tooth.
Crowns are recommended for children for a number of reasons, ranging from
extensive decay and large
cavities to teeth that have been damaged by trauma or injury.
Crowns may be recommended for:
- Restoring a decayed baby tooth
- Preventing the spread of decay
- Repairing a fractured or broken tooth
- A tooth that has not developed properly
- Additional support after a baby root canal
- Supporting the normal development of the teeth and jaws
We take a conservative approach to dental care for children. We always
focus on retaining as much of the natural tooth material as possible,
preventing further damage, and restoring the function and appearance of
the teeth. If we believe a crown is the best solution for your child,
we will explain the process and answer your questions.
Types of Crowns
There are several material options for crowns in Anaheim. The most popular
are stainless steel and porcelain tooth colored crowns, which can be matched
to the natural color of the teeth. If the teeth are easily seen and appearance
is a concern, tooth colored material may be the better option. However,
dentists often recommend stainless steel crowns for children for a few
Stainless steel crowns may be recommended because they are:
- The most commonly used material for dental crowns for kids
- Cost effective
- Easily molded in the desired shape
- Strong for chewing surfaces
- Good for decay that is located between the teeth
If your child needs a crown, we can explain the different types of materials,
the advantages and disadvantages of each, cost, and other information
to help determine the best type of material for your child’s crown.
Generally, if the crown won’t be easily seen, stainless steel crowns
are the easiest and most affordable solution for baby teeth.
Stainless Steel Crowns
Dental crowns are recommended when the damaged tooth needs a full coverage
protection. Stainless steel crowns are strong metal caps that cover the
entire tooth and is resistant against further damage. Due to its smooth
and polished surface, it is long lasting and very easy for kids to keep
clean. In addition, stainless steel crown preparations also require less
removal of natural tooth structure compared to other materials.
Our doctors will recommend the best treatment and material for your child.
On very rare occasions, metal material can cause localized tissue irritation
or allergic reactions. If any of these signs or symptoms are suspected,
simply give us a call
The Treatment Process
Often, dental crowns in Anaheim can be completed in one visit, which is
different from crowns for adults. The first step is to numb the area around
the tooth that will be treated. The dentist will remove any decay from
the tooth and shape it for the placement of the crown. After the tooth
is prepared, the crown is polished, fitted over the tooth, and cemented in place.
While the mouth is numbed during the procedure, your child may experience
some discomfort for up to 24 hours after the crown is placed. Over the
counter pain medications can be helpful. You should wait to offer food
until the numbness has completely worn off. The crown can be brushed and
flossed as your normal teeth. Please contact our office if there are any problems.
